The third woman of my series of five medals is Gabriele Münter (1877 – 1962). She was a fine art painter. She didn’t go to the Academy of Art because women were not allowed to in her days. She was very talented and worked with Wassily Kandinsky in München and lived with him as a couple. Together they started in 1911 ‘Der Blaue Reiter’ with Franz Marc. Unfortunately, you still only hear about the men who worked in this art group while Gabriele Münter was a founding member.
Backside of the Medal: The painting ‘Das Münter-Haus in Murnau’ (1931) by Gabriele Münter depicted as a relief.
